MCP

Onboard MCP servers so Agent Identity Security can manage them, and create a secure gateway for every MCP server you add.

What is an MCP integration

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is how AI agents discover and call external tools. An MCP integration lets Agent Identity Security sit in that path: exposing AppViewX capabilities to agents as callable tools, and optionally proxying all MCP traffic so every call is authenticated, inspected, and logged.

MCP Server vs. MCP Gateway

MCP Server
Exposes AppViewX capabilities to agents as tools through the Model Context Protocol. Onboard an MCP server when you want agents to be able to call AppViewX actions directly.
MCP Gateway
Creates a secure proxy in front of the MCP servers you have added, so every agent request is authenticated and audited centrally instead of trusting each server individually.

Vendor integrations

Platform Purpose
MCP Server Expose AppViewX capabilities to agents as callable tools.
MCP Gateway Manage and create a secure gateway for every MCP server you add, so agent traffic is authenticated and audited in one place.

MCP Server

Register any MCP (Model Context Protocol) server with Agent Identity Security to proxy and govern communication between AI clients and MCP-compatible tools.

An MCP Server integration registers the underlying MCP server with the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway. Agent Identity Security generates a proxied endpoint that clients use to communicate with the server through Agent Identity Security, enabling visibility and access control over MCP tool calls.

Note: An MCP Server integration registers a raw MCP server with Agent Identity Security. For managing proxied MCP endpoints as a product, see MCP Gateway.

Before You Begin

  1. Identify the URL of the MCP server to register (for example, https://mcp.example.com).
  2. Obtain any authentication credentials required by the MCP server (for example, an API key or bearer token).
  3. Ensure the MCP server is accessible from the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway network.
  1. On the Integrations page, click Add Integration.
  2. In the Integration Catalog, click MCP Server.
The MCP Server configuration screen is displayed.
  3. Under Instance Details, enter the following:
    Field Description
*Instance Name Unique name for this MCP server integration. Example: Production MCP Server.
Description Optional description to identify the MCP server's purpose or environment.
    *: Mandatory fields
  4. Under MCP Server Details, enter the target MCP server URL and any authentication settings required for the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway to communicate with the server.
  5. Configure gateway authentication settings to secure communication between the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway and the registered MCP server.
  6. Review the configuration and click Create Instance.
The MCP server is registered with the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway. A proxied endpoint is generated that clients can use to communicate with the server through Agent Identity Security.
The MCP server is available through the Agent Identity Security MCP Gateway. Share the proxied endpoint URL with AI clients that should communicate with this server. Tool calls routed through the gateway are subject to Agent Identity Security access policies and audit logging.
