AppViewX Patch Management

Patches contain incremental script and plugin updates released via the AppViewX Release Portal.

Apply them through the Interactive UI.

Applying a Patch

  1. Download the scripts patch tarball (scripts, addons and plugins) from the Release Portal.
  2. Copy the patch files to the installer node.
  3. Move patch files to the patch directory: mv <patch_file> appviewx_kubernetes/patch/.
  4. Run: ./install.sh.
  5. Select Continue and then select option 6.
  6. When prompted, confirm whether to skip backup.
  7. Provide the absolute path to the scripts tarball when prompted.
  8. The wizard backs up current scripts, overlays the patch, validates SSH/PEM, and executes.
  9. Press Ctrl+R to resume if interrupted.

Skipping MongoDB Backup During Apply Patch

Note: Ensure that node VM snapshots are taken before skipping backup. The Ctrl+P rollback option in the Terminal UI will NOT restore data if the MongoDB backup was skipped.

To skip the MongoDB backup during Apply Patch:

  1. Take VM snapshot (recommended).
  2. Download the scripts patch tarball (scripts, addons, and plugins) from the Release Portal.
  3. Copy the patch files to the installer node.
  4. Run ./install.sh and select option 6.
  5. Enter credentials and respond to prompts.
  6. When the configuration table screen appears, open a second terminal session.
  7. Navigate to: <INSTALLER_PATH>/appviewx_kubernetes/scripts/.
  8. Open the file: application_upgrade.json.
  9. Find the take_backup parameter and change its value from true to false.
  10. Save the file and return to the main session to continue.

Patch Rollback

AppViewX recommends taking a VM snapshot before starting the upgrade. In case of a failure during patch application, restore the VM from the snapshot, relaunch the installer, and press Ctrl+P to resume the execution from the next step.

Post-Patch Validation

  • ./appviewx.sh --version - confirm the patch version.
  • kubectl get pods -n <NAMESPACE> - all pods Running.
  • Spot-check key workflows in the AppViewX Web UI.
